Police repression is increasingly overwhelming in Vevey these days. This persecution is directed at Black people, especially West Africans with no legal status here in Switzerland (permits). This is the result of the Swiss politics regarding immigration, which aims at forcing people out of the country. Spreading fear and maintaining people in inhuman living conditions are amidst the states’ main strategies, which include among other things:
- denying housing rights
- preventing access to legal work (thus pushing people towards illegal work to be able to provide for themselves and their families)
- systematic harassment and persecution of Black people in the streets by the police
- imprisonment
- deportations
The Swiss Senegambian Arts&Culture Association firmly condemns such policy and its members invest a great deal of efforts to struggle for a dignified life for all. La répression policière est devenue de plus en plus accablante à Vevey dernièrement. Cette persécution est dirigée envers les personnes Noires, en particuliers les personnes Ouest-africaines n’ayant pas de statut légal ici en Suisse (permis de séjour).
